USA Today’s Aaron Rodgers leads all players with five goals, and his tally of nine goals is the most by a British player since the 2004 World Cup.
Rodgers’ five goals are the most scored by any player in U.A.C. history, and he is the first Briton to score 10 goals in a single campaign since the 1999-2000 campaign.
He scored the goals with a cross in his left foot from the penalty spot, which came with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
“I think I was the first player to do it since my first season at U.L.C.,” Rodgers said.
“It was a little weird coming into this game, but it’s nice to get a win, so that’s the feeling.”
The U.KS. is one of two countries in the world that have scored more than 20 goals in the same game in the past two years, according to STATS LLC.
“We’ve been good in our first two games,” Rodgers said of his team’s recent win.
“Our first three games, we had goals, but then we went down the stretch and got a couple.
We’re feeling good about our chances in the next game, and it will be nice to win that one, too.”
The United States is one point behind Italy, the second-best team in the World Cup, for the top spot in Group A. The United Kingdom leads Group A, with France and Germany tied for third.
Rodgers is the second U.D. player to score four goals in his first three matches for the U.G. He tied a U-17 record with a hat trick against the U-20s on Saturday.
